BJP will herald a new dawn in Bodo belt: Himanta Biswa Sarma

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has put in its best effort to muster support for its candidates in the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) polls - a significant political development whose outcome will have ramifications beyond the BTC.

TANGLA: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has put in its best effort to muster support for its candidates in the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) polls - a significant political development whose outcome will have ramifications beyond the BTC.

BJP leader and North-East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) convener Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma addressed several meetings and took out rallies across the 10 BTC constituencies in Udalguri district which are believed to be stronghold of the Bodoland People's Front (BPF). Sarma attended a bike rally with party workers and supporters in Attarekhat under Bhergaon BTC constituency of Udalguri district on Saturday. Sarma, seated in an open Gypsy, waved at the people of the constituency. People showered petals on him and felicitated him with Bihuwan.

Later, he addressed a gathering at Bhuyankhat under Khoirabari BTC constituency where he exhorted the people to vote for change and bring the BJP to power. He also assured the people of providing land rights if the BJP was voted to power. He asserted that the BJP restored peace in the troubled Bodo belt. He further reiterated that the BJP would herald a new dawn in the Bodo belt.

Pertinently, Udalguri and Baksa districts will go for polls in the first phase on December 7. On the other hand, Kokrajhar and Chirang districts will vote on December 10. The votes will be counted on December 12.
