BKWAC Act, 2020 is based on ‘Bodo Inhabitant Village: Bodo People’s Organization (UBPO)

LAKHIMPUR: An executive meeting of the central committee the United Bodo People’s Organization (UBPO) was held at Bodo Sahitya Sabha Bhavan, Guwahati on Sunday. Representatives from all the district committees of the UBPO and all the central committee members were present in the meeting. The meeting was chaired by UBPO president Manuranjan Basumatary while the objectives of the meeting were explained by general secretary Pitambar Brahma.

At the outset of the meeting, the house remembered and condoled the demise of Dr Champabati Khakhlary, Assistant Professor, Head of the Department of Bodo in the Bikali College and wife of Amiya Kumar Basumatary, EM of the BKWAC, Deben Narzary, Treasurer of the Sonitpur district committee of the UBPO, Jatil Chandra Daimary, former Vice-President of the Karbi Anglong district committee of the UBPO and Baldev Khakhlary, Secretary of the Charaideo district committee the UBPO.

The meeting was held regarding the village notification of the BKWAC issued by the Government of Assam on May 2 of the current year and to clarify the objections raised by other organisations and societies. Sukreswar Goyary, adviser of the UBPO briefly elaborated the Village Notification of the BKWAC. The UBPO thanked the Government of Assam for making the Village Notification. Moreover, the quarries risen in the house regarding the inclusion of the villages dominated by other castes were cleared. The UBPO made it clear that the BKWAC Act, 2020 is based on ‘Bodo Inhabitant Village’ and not ‘Dominated Village’ and therefore the other organizations or public should not worry regarding the inclusion of villages proposed in the notification.

During the course of the meeting, the central committee of the UBPO resolved to visit all the districts notified under the BKWAC, through the notification issued by the Government of Assam on May 2. The central committee also decided to discuss with ABSU and other Bodo frontal organizations over the matter of the village notification.

The meeting also adopted resolutions to organize the 10th annual conference of the UBPO in Charaideo district and to observe the foundation day of the organization in all the districts simultaneously with the central committee.
