BKWAC organizes special meet on Bodo medium education in Guwahati

A special meeting on the Bodo medium education inside and outside of BTC was held at Bodo Sahitya Sabha (BSS) Bhavan, Bathoupuri in Guwahati

KOKRAJHAR: A special meeting on the Bodo medium education inside and outside of BTC was held at Bodo Sahitya Sabha (BSS) Bhavan, Bathoupuri in Guwahati recently under the aegis of Boro Kachari Welfare Autonomous Council (BKWAC). This was the first joint meeting with the representatives of BKWAC, BSS, ABSU Bodo Primary Teachers' Association and Director of Education for Bodo and other tribal languages of Assam to chalk out strategy and to remove hurdles and shortcomings in a comprehensive way.

The meeting was initiated by the Principal Secretary of BKWAC Anil Chandra Deory where the CEM of BKWAC Mihiniswar Basumatary, his deputy chief Romeo P. Narzary, chairman Gambaru Mashahary, president of BSS Taren Boro, general secretary Prasanta Boro, president of ABSU Dipen Boro, Director of Bodo medium and other tribal languages were present.

Talking to this correspondent, the CEM of BKWAC Mihiniswar Basumatary said his council was giving utmost importance for uplift of education. "There are lots of problems in Bodo medium education across the State. There are shortage of teachers, lack of basic infrastructure and problems of venture schools," he said adding that these problems should be solved through comprehensive policy. He also said the council was in need of separate policy on education for solution of certain problems. He also said that they held meeting with frontal Bodo organizations that are working for education and Director of Education for Bodo and other tribal languages and they will call on the minister of education as next step.

Meanwhile, EM of education of BKWAC Anil Basumatary said it was the first joint meeting with different organization and director of education for Bodo medium and other tribal languages to find out a way of solution of problems of Bodo medium education. He demanded that the clause 3.6 of BTR accord should be implemented in letter and spirit. He also said the education department of BKWAC had been collecting complete data of Bodo medium schools outside BTC and work is on to identify the problems and subsequently finding out a clear policy to solve it. He further said the council will shortly form a committee for education policy in the council.

On the other hand, it is learnt that the government of Assam is yet to depute officers in the new Directorate for Bodo medium and other tribal languages. Though the government has sanctioned 22 posts yet the Director Mamata Hojai has been working alone helplessly.
