GAURISAGAR: A section of people of Gaurisagar Nakatani village comprising as many as 50 families under Sivasagar revenue circle of Jakaichuk Mouza in Sivasagar district are facing artificial water logging since the last two years due to alleged blockage of the drainage system by ONGC oil field Rig No M 4900 situated near Mitong bridge, 100 metre away from Gaurisagar Tiniali.

As a result, the affected people as well as farmers have lost their agricultural production. The people had complained repeatedly to the ONGC authority but they allegedly turned a deaf ear. Finding no way, they submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister of Assam seeking his intervention. They also submitted a copy to the Chief Secretary of Assam, Deputy Commissioner of Sivasagar and Asset Manager-cum-Executive Director of Assam Asset, ONGCL Nazira, Sivasagar. But when there was no response, the people blocked the main entrance to the rig for two hours demanding a solution to the water-logging problem.

The ONGC authority assured the local people that the problem would be solved soon. The affected people urged the ONGC authority as well as Sivasagar district administration to take necessary measures to solve the problem at the earliest.
