Blood donation camp organized by DU NSS cell

Altogether 76 units of blood was donated and deposited in the blood bank of Assam Medical College from the camp.

Dibrugarh: The NSS Cell, Dibrugarh University on Friday organized a voluntary blood donation camp in association with the NCC Unit, NSS DUPG Unit, DUPGSU and DURSA at the Bishnurabha Ranngamancha and Health Centre of Dibrugarh University.

The programme was supported by the Blood Bank of Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh. Despite bad weather condition, NSS volunteers from Digboi College, DDR College and North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous) also participated and donated blood during the programme.

Altogether 76 units of blood was donated and deposited in the blood bank of Assam Medical College from the camp. Atul Sonowal, a former NSS volunteer of North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous) who has already donated blood 76 times till date, was felicitated with Assamese phulam gamusa and a saphura.

Dr. Rashmi Phukan, Senior Medical Officer of Dibrugarh University, addressed the student gathering and described the significance of the blood donation and praised the student donors for the overwhelming response.

Dr Devid Kardong, Programme Coordinator of the NSS Cell (DU), Prof. Surajit Borkotoky, Dr. Mantu Baro (Associate NCC Officer), Ranadra Khaund, NSS PO of DDR College, Pranjit Baruah and Rajkumar Bhorali were amongst the prominent donors in the camp. In this context, a blood donation awareness rally was also taken out on March 24.

The rally, which was inaugurated by Prof. Jiten Hazarika, Registrar (DU), was participated by teachers, officers, students, research scholars, NSS volunteers and NCC cadets. During inauguration of the rally, Prof. Jiten Hazarika and Dr. Binud Borah (Joint Registrar, Acad.) highlighted the necessity and significance of blood donation in their brief speeches.
