Blood donation drive held in Assam's Gargaon College

The aim of the blood donation drive was to encourage people to help people in need and to cater to the growing need of blood

SIVASAGAR: The NSS Unit of Gargaon College in collaboration with IQAC, Eco Club, Gargaon College Students' Union and Sivasagar Civil Hospital, Joysagar organized a blood donation drive in the college premises on Friday.

The aim of the drive was to encourage people to help people in need and to cater to the growing need of blood. The drive began with a short inaugural function wherein Dr Dijen Koch, SM and HO ( Blood Bank, Sivasagar Civil Hospital), and his eight- member team was given a warm welcome by the college.

Dr Sabyasachi Mahanta, Principal of Gargaon College, inaugurated the blood donation camp. He appreciated the effort of the NSS Unit of the college for its endeavour in this regard. Blood donation is a noble cause that helps save lives, said Dr Mahanta. He also stressed the need for blood donation and appreciated the volunteers for coming forward for this noble act.

Dr Dijen Koch, SM and HO (Blood Bank, Sivasagar Civil Hospital), also delivered an awareness speech and spoke on the importance and benefits of blood donation. A total of 32 donors, including the Principal of the college, faculty members and the students donated blood. Although 100 volunteers registered for this drive, due to medical grounds, 68 volunteers could not donate blood. At the end, 350 ml was mobilized during the blood donation drive.

The programme was coordinated by Dr Rimjim Borah, NSS Programme Officer, and Dr Mintu Gogoi, Assistant Professor of Commerce, Gargaon College. The NSS Unit of Gargaon College expressed gratitude towards all the blood donors, faculty members and the volunteers for making the blood donation drive successful.
