TANGLA: The All BTC Minorities Students' Union (ABMSU) has strongly condemned the incident of firing in Salbari area of Baksa district on Thursday where a Bodoland People's Front (BPF) worker, Pranjit Das was shot by some unidentified miscreants. He luckily survived the fatal attack and is now stated to be stable and out of danger.
General secretary of All BTC Minorities Students' Union (ABMSU), Taison Hussain demanded immediate arrest of the culprits and alleged that the administration and police had totally failed to secure the life and property of the common people in the Bodo belt.
"The recent Bodo pact has again promised of bringing ever-lasting peace in the region but how can such claims be corroborated when people are being targeted by armed miscreants in the region," he said. He further alleged that there was glaring presence of illegal firearms in the Bodo belt and security agencies must adopt prompt and pre-emptive action.
State Social Welfare Minister Pramila Rani Brahma, while condemning the incident, suspected political conspiracy behind the attack and opined that such attacks were meant to demoralize the BPF party workers ahead of the BTC polls.
Kokrajhar Lok Sabha MP Naba Kumar Sarania, while condemning the killing, alleged that such attacks were an attempt to gag the voice of the common people and create a fear psychosis among the masses. He further added that the people of the region had doubts if the third Bodo pact would truly bring 'ever-lasting peace' in the Bodo belt as such attacks had been frequent in the region. Sarania claimed that the candidates backed by Gana Suraksha Party (GSP) would sweep the polls in a number of seats and people of the region must vote for the candidates for the sake of good governance, peace and development.
