KOKRAJHAR: The Bodo Sahitya Sabha (BSS) and the Kokrajhar unit of All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) expressed resentment over the row over medium in the examination of Bodoland University (BU).
The AASU and BSS have been opposing the use of English as the only medium of writing in examination in the UG programmes in major and professional subjects, other than language subjects. There had been hue and cry on the matter in BU following the issuance of order to implement the instructions of the State Government.
The president of BSS, Dr Surath Narzary said the BU authority should clarify the problems and there must be a clear instruction about which language-English, Boro or Assamese- the students will write in the major and professional subjects in the under graduate programmes or there will be confusion among students. He further said that the confusion at Bodoland University could turn into a bigger problem if the authority fails to clarify as early as possible.
Meanwhile, the president of Kokrajhar unit of AASU, Manasjyoti Ray said the instruction of BU to write the major subjects of UG programmes in English was a matter of concern. He said the student body had been opposing the use of English as the only medium in the major subjects. He said the decision of BU was an injustice towards the students.
On the other hand, the Academic Registrar of BU, Dr Manjil Basumatary said there had been no discriminative decision on any language in the BU but everything was going on as it was earlier. He said as per instruction of Regulation of Examination of Varsities, 2015, the students of colleges under BU having major subjects should write the examination in English. However, the students will write in English and Assamese in the regular course. He also said there had been no contradictory decisions taken by the BU authority.
