Bodoland People's Front wins 4 out of 6 seats in Kokrajhar

GOSSAIGAON: The much awaited BTC General Election results were finally declared in four districts of Kokrajhar. The Bodoland People's Front (BPF) has been able to retain 4 seats out of 6 falling under Gossaigaon sub-division in BTC Polls 2020 leaving one each to the UPPL (United People's Party Liberal) and the Congress.

The counting of poll started at around 9 am with tight securities within the campus keeping in view of the anomalies that erupted on the day of submission of ballot paper due to the negligencies by the security personnel where presiding officers were brutally attacked by the irate party workers. As a result, the Gossaigaon Election officers had to conduct re-polling at 36 No. Srirampur High School on December 11.

In 6 No.Kachugaon UPPL contestant Ukil Mushahary defeated his nearest rival cum former BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary by a margin of 500 votes. In the final round of counting of votes there seemed utter suspense among the people but defeating the suspense Ukil Mushahary of UPPL won the prestigious seat. Mohilary got 16,469 votes while UkilMushahary received 17,469 votes. In 5 No.Saraibil Ex-EM Mrityunjay Narzary from BPF retained the seat for the 2nd time by a margin of 3,483 votes.

BPF candidate Reo Reoa Narzihary won the 4 No. Jamduar seat by a margin of 5,795 votes. BPF contestant Prakash Brahma won 8 No. Dotma seat by a margin of 1,485 votes. Rahindra Brahma, BPF candidate won the 2 No. Guma seat by a margin of 3,743 votes.

Finally Congress contestant Sajal Kumar Singha won the 3 No. Srirampur Non-ST seat by defeating his rival IND candidate Hafizul Islam Sk by a margin of 5,000 votes. This time BPF candidate Abdul Khalek Mandal failed to meet the satisfactory results as there was huge support in favour of the Congress contestant.
