Bodoland University Employees’ Union observe ‘Demand Day’

KOKRAJHAR: The Bodoland University Employees’ Union (BUEU) observed “Demand Day” on Wednesday at Bodoland University in front of administrative building.

“Demand Letter” was also submitted to the Prime Minister of India and Education Minister Govt. of India regarding the demands through vice-Chancellor of Bodoland University. All the non-teaching staff of Bodoland University took part in the programme. The ‘Demand Day” was observed by all the state universities all over India under the aegis of All India University Employees’ Confederation (AIUEC).

BUEU president Akan Roy and secretary Chandan Brahma stated that there are many pending issues and demands of university employees including scrap of NPS and restore of OPS as one of the vital demand for a long time. The employees observed the day by taking banners and placards.

The demands included to set up pay review committee through the University Grants Commission to examine and recommend a pay structure for the non-teaching employees of the universities, to prescribe rules for uniform service conditions, time bound promotion, skill development, academic advancement of the employees, to provide for representation of non-teaching employees in University bodies, to take steps for democratization of the Act/statutes of the Universities and to ensure real autonomy and accountability and to scrap New Education Policy and ensure wider consultation of all stake holders to arrive at a consensus to ensure an equitable Education Policy.

Take steps to end the practice of daily wages and contractual employment and outsourcing employees in the Universities and fill up all vacant posts immediately.

They also demanded payment of 8.33% bonus to all non-teaching employees of the Universities whether Central, State, Agriculture, Health and or Technical Universities and to stop victimization of trade union leaders and workers in the Universities and elsewhere.
