Diphu: On Monday, the body of an 11-year-old girl was found in a nearby forest in Karbi Anglong. The girl along with a nine-year-old girl had been missing since Saturday. According to reports, no clue has been found about the whereabouts of the other girl.
The incident is said to have taken place in the Lokhiram Rongphar village of Upper Doigrung area under Chockihola police station in the district of Karbi Anglong, as per local media.
The people of the village said that the two girls had gone to the nearby river and later did not return home. A search party was sent out comprising the villagers and the parents of the victims to look for the girl but the efforts were in vain.
A missing report was filed in the local police station on Sunday.
The villagers later recovered the body of the 11-year-old girl from the adjoining forest on Monday after a thorough search. The body of the minor was smeared with bloodstains.
The incident is suspected to be a rape and murder case by the local villagers and the body of the girl found was naked and her head had many injury marks.
A case has been registered by the police under sections 303, 201, 34 of IPC. The reports of the post-mortem are awaited to confirm if the 11-year-old was raped before she was killed.
The police have reportedly launched a massive search operation to find the nine-year-old girl.
