GORESWAR: The Bogamati picnic spot along the Indo-Bhutan border in Baksa district was formally opened for picnickers by Emanual Muchahary, MLA of Tamulpur LAC, recently in presence of Bijit Goura Narzary, MCLA of Darangajuli BTC constituency, and other political leaders, NGO members, picnickers and public in general.

Inaugurating the Bogamati picnic spot for tourists, the MLA said that Bogamati was a beautiful place for picnic. “River Barnadi reaches here flowing from the Bhutan hills. The 25-foot tall statue of Buddha is another attraction of the picnic spot. The tourists from Bhutan, Nepal and Myanmar also visit the Buddha Temple and have picnic here,” he added.

The flora and fauna of Bogamati picnic spot and amusement activities attract picnickers. Various types of trees and birds are available here. Plum trees are found in large numbers. Wild elephants take shelter at Bogamati during the day and leave Bogamati at night for food and water. River rafting, trekking, climbing hill and several adventure activities can be done here. The Shikhar Adventure Club of Goreswar arranges all kinds of adventure activities in Bogamati picnic spot.

The cleanliness of the picnic spot and safety of the picnickers is looked after by the Eco-tourism Society. Large number of vehicles come to Bogamati from the beginning of the picnic season till the end of winter and they are smoothly parked in the parking place. Picnickers usually use non-biodegradable items made of plastic which later make their way into the water of Barnadi and pollute the river, posing a threat to the aquatic flora and fauna and the entire aquatic ecosystem. The Dawraijhar Eco- tourism Society of Bogamati has strictly asked picnickers to maintain cleanliness and to properly dispose off non-biodegradable items after use.
