Bohagi Mela inaugurated in Darrang district

MANGALDAI: With a view to provide a suitable market to the women members of the self help groups of Darrang district for their homemade products particularly the handloom woven ‘Phulam Bihuwan’, ‘Mekhela Chadar’ etc on the eve of the ensuing festivity of Rongali Bihu, Assam State Rural Livelihood Mission (ASRLM) in association with the district administration and Mangaldai Municipality, has organized a three day duration ‘Asomi Bohagi Mela’ at MG Road (Saturday Women Market).

Inaugurating the ‘Bohagi Mela’ Darrang Deputy Commissioner Munindra Nath Ngatey appreciated the initiative of the members of the self help groups to showcase their homemade products. “It is a matter of pride that a total numbers of 12,684 self help groups are functioning in Darrang district of which 10,411 have a total revolving fund of Rs 26 crores. The total amount of Community Investment Fund is 31 crores for 6258 self group groups while 6129 self help groups have received Rs 169 crores as bank loan,” said Deputy Commissioner Ngatey in his speech. In the ‘Bohagi Mela’ a total of 34 self help groups have participated with their colourful and attractive products.
