Bongaigaon Civil Hospital registers first caesarean operation of COVID-19 patient

BONGAIGAON: Amidst this prevailing pandemic crisis, there comes a good news for the district as the first caesarean operation of a COVID-19 positive patient was successfully conducted on Tuesday morning by an efficient medical team of Bongaigaon Civil Hospital (BCH).

The 19-year old COVID-19 positive pregnant woman from Sidalsati area of the district was admitted to the hospital at around 4 am on Tuesday with obstructed prolonged labour pain. The woman was immediately screened and her RAT results came out positive. The COVID Care team of the hospital at once came into action and the gynaecologist, considering her condition, decided to opt for an emergency caesarean operation. The woman delivered a healthy female baby weighing 2.4 kg after the successful operation. The swab test (RAT) of the baby has come out negative and the condition of both the mother and the baby is stable. The CSOT team of BCH consisted of Dr. Gautam Das (gynaecologist), Dr M M Rahman (anaesthetist), Dr. M. I. Ahmed ( Paediatrician), staff nurses Mijing Brahma, Anita Kalita and Laxmi Chetri , the OT boy Satra Singh Roy and cleaner Kiran Basfor as well. Joint Director of Health and Services, Dr. N. M. Das and Superintendent Dr P K Roy extended their possible support to the team.
