Bongaigaon DC Dr MS Lakshmi Priya reviewed progress of SVANidhi Scheme

BONGAIGAON: The Deputy Commissioner of Bongaigaon, Dr MS Lakshmi Priya, attended a national-level video conference to review and monitor the progress of the Street Vendor's Atma Nirbhar Nidhi (SVANidhi) Scheme.

The video conference was hosted under the chairmanship of Secretary, MoHUA and was attended by the representatives of all the States of the country viz. Principal Secretaries / Administrator (Urban Development) of States / UTs; Joint Secretaries of M/o H&FW, WCD, Labour & Employment, Department of Food & PD and DFS; State Mission Directors of DAY-NULM; Municipal Commissioners and Deputy Commissioners of the selected ULBs.

The Deputy Commissioner of Bongaigaon presented the progress of PM SVANidhi scheme implemented by the City Mission Management Unit (ASULMS) (DAY-NULM) under Bongaigaon Municipal Board. The Secretary, MoHUA, highly appreciated the Deputy Commissioner on achieving the allotted target till March, 2022 in PM SVANidhi and achieving 100 per cent compliance in 'SVANidhi Se Samrdidhi' programme till date. Bongaigaon Municipality was able to secure the topmost position in the country in conducting socio-economic profiling of the street vendors. Bongaiagon Municipality is the only ULB in Assam to implement socio-economic profiling in Assam.

The Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs (MoHUA), Government of India, has started the Prime Minister's Street Vendor's Atma Nirbhar Nidhi (PM SVANiDhi) Scheme for the street vendors of urban areas. It is a special collateral free micro credit facility launched by the government to provide working capital loan up to Rs. 10,000 with 7 per cent interest subsidy to be provided to the street vendors whose business was hampered during the COVID-19 lockdown.

Bongaigaon is the only town in Assam selected by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India, as the priority town for saturation of PM SVANidhi scheme. Bongaigaon Municipality and CMMU staff implemented the scheme under the leadership of Dr MS Lakshmi Priya, Deputy Commissioner of Bongaigaon, and overcame all the challenges of the pandemic to provide the benefits the street vendors of Bongaigaon town through PM SVANidhi.

Bongaiagon Municipality is also planning to offer the benefits of other government schemes viz. PMJJBY, PMSBY, PMJDY, PM Matru Vandana Yojana, PM Shram Yogi Maan Dhan Yojana and Janani Surakshya Yojana to the family members of the street vendors through convergence with other departments under 'SVANidhi Se Samriddhi' programme.
