Bongaigaon police destroyed Burmese betel nuts

Bongaigaon police destroyed a huge amount of seized Burmese betel nut on Friday. The value of these Burmese betel nuts is approximately Rs 25 lakh.

BONGAIGAON: Bongaigaon police destroyed a huge amount of seized Burmese betel nut on Friday. The value of these Burmese betel nuts is approximately Rs 25 lakh. The consignment was seized by Manikpur PS of Bongaigaon district last year on June 4 while it was transported illegally. Later, the nuts were sent for testing and as per report of the Bongaigaon Food Inspector, Forensic Science Laboratory Guwahati and Central Plantation Research Institute of Kerala, the seized Burmese betel nuts were declared unfit for consumption.

On the basis of these reports, the Bongaigaon court ordered the destruction of the betel nuts. On Friday, in the presence of several officials such as the Bongaigaon it had been Superintendent of Police, Additional SP Bongaigaon, CO Manikpur and many others, the betel nuts were destroyed at Manikpur PS.
