BONGAIGAON: Three chain snatchers were caught red-handed by Bongaigaon Police on Thursday when they were snatching a gold chain from an aged woman. Topoty Chakr aborty, a resident of Kalibari area of Bongaigaon, was coming back from UCO Bank, Bongaigaon after withdrawing her pension. "I was walking with another woman. These three miscreants were waiting in front of Priya Gupta Memorial Hall and they snatched my gold chain from my neck. Then they ran through Railway New Colony. I shouted and immediately people gathered. A police team also arrived there and ran after the miscreants. Finally, they were caught and the police returned my chain also," she said.
The three chain snatchers were identified as Rinku Prasad Rout (30), son of Swadesh Prasad, resident of Hassarbari village under Dhaligaon PS of Chirang district; Nayan Chakraborty (26), son of Narayan Chakraborty, resident of Tulsijhora village under Amguri PS of Chirang district; and Bablu Brahma (25), son of Narodi Brahma, resident of Kharija Dolaigaon village under Bongaigaon PS of Bongaigaon district.
The three confessed during interrogation that they had thrown the chain in the campus of a railway quarter. "Our police team recovered the chain from the campus and returned it to the lady. We have registered a case (No 37/ 20)," said a police official. Topoty Chakr-aborty sustained injury on the chest while her chain was snatched. She was admitted in a private nursing home.
