Book Fair kicks off at Lakhimpur College (Autonomous)

LAKHIMPUR: The 4th North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous) Book Fair kicked off at the college campus in a festive environment on Monday.

In this context, an inaugural event was ceremonially organized in the book fair venue under the management of Dr. Arabinda Rajkhowa, the Head of the Department of Assamese. Gracing the occasion, noted poet cum litterateur Jiban Narah inaugurated the eight-day long event which will last until March 28. In his lecture Jiban Narah lauded the endeavours of the first and foremost autonomous college of the north-eastern region initiated to spearhead an intellectual revolution.

"I had no prior idea that a college has so much strength and spirit. I am overwhelmed by witnessing and experiencing the initiatives adopted by the college to make almost four thousand students intellectually strong. The college has set an example by organizing a big book fair like a government department or organization does. North Lakhimpur College Book fair has turned to be a leading force in shaping a strong generation," Jiban Narah asserted in his lecture.

In the programme, Principal Dr. Biman Chandra Chetia delivered the welcome address while Digboi College Principal, Dr. Deep Saikia was present as special guest. In his lecture, Dr. Saikia highly appreciated the intellectual revolution in North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous). It was followed by a symposium on the topic, 'Role of teachers in attracting the new generation towards books', organized by the Department of Education. The symposium commenced with Head of the Department Banikanta Konwar in the chair. Dr. Prabin Kumar Gogoi, the professor of the Department of Education, Dibrugarh University, attended the programme as resource person. In the evening, a cultural programme titled as 'Bhraman Biroti' was held in revered memory of literary personality Saurabh Kumar Chaliha. The cultural programme was organized by the inmate students of the Saurabh Kumar Chaliha Boys' Hostel of the college.
