Boro Kachari Welfare Autonomous Council, UBPO condole Khirod Khaklary's demise

LAKHIMPUR/KOKRAJHAR: The Boro Kachari Welfare Autonomous Council has expressed deep sorrow at the demise of Khirod Khaklary, the recipient of the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award.

Khirod Khaklary breathed his last on Thursday at Gauhati Medical College (GMCH) around 12.20 pm. He was 96. He had been under treatment at GMCH for old-age ailments since October 11. He was the resident of Kalyankuchi, Dalbari, Satgaon of Guwahati. Khaklary won the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2005 for his tremendous contribution towards popularizing and enhancing Bodo folk music.

In a condolence note BKWAC Chief Executive Member Mihiniswar Basumatary said, "Khirof Khaklary was a great organizer, leader in the field of cultural activities and he also had an enormous contribution towards the field of folk culture, music in the State of Assam and in the national level. His demise is a great loss for the Bodos as well as the people of Assam." BKWAC prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul in heavenly abode.

EM Anil Basumatary also said that the demise of Khaklary had created a vacuum in the field of Bodo folk culture and music. He said the society would always remember his immense contribution. On the other hand, United Bodo People's Organization (UBPO) also expressed profound grief deep sorrow at the demise of Khirod Khakhlary.

"His achievements and dedicated contribution towards the Bodo Folk Music in the State and national level will always be cherished. We pray to the Almighty to give courage to the bereaved family to come out of this irreparable loss. May his departed soul rest in peace in heavenly abode," said UBPO central committee president Manuranjan Basumatary and general secretary Pitambar Brahma in a condolence note.
