DOOMDOOMA: The Assam Tea Tribes Students’ Association (ATTSA) Doomdooma Branch Committee has demanded the bought leaf factories to pay wages and salaries to workers and employees during lockdown period and asked the government to take some positive steps for survival of their families.
In a statement to the press, president Babul Panika said that the government took this step of lockdown for containing the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) which has created worldwide panic. The government, besides instructing the big industries, also instructed the small industrial units and other business establishments not to curtail the wages and salaries of workers and employees during lockdown period.
In the meanwhile, the government generously declared several packages for revival of economy as well as to give relief to the workers of the unorganised sector as a food security measures. In Assam, the tea industries have contributed immensely towards the growth of the State’s economy. So as per the government’s directive, the bought leaf factories should also take steps to pay wages and salaries to the workers and employees engaged in manufacturing process of the factory.
The president of ATTSA Doomdooma Branch Committee, Babul Panika further said that the bought leaf factories should make these payments to the workers and employees as per provision of Industrial Dispute Act and urged the State Government to take some positive steps for maintaining healthy industrial environment in tea industries.
