SILCHAR: Question has again been raised as to how a young man of Karimganj swam through river Kushiara to reach Jakiganj of Bangladesh. This happened in the broad daylight at the open border point facing the town, near the camp of 7th Bn BSF. The youth has been identified as Abhijit Das (16) of Rangamati under Bazaricherra police station. Concerned citizens are worried and puzzled to think how porous and vulnerable are our border despite BSF maintaining 24X7 patrolling and vigilance.

According to information, Abhijit Das has been missing from his home of Rangamati since November 18. His father Nishindra Das filed missing report with Bazaricherra police station. Family members also met MLA of the area Krishendu Paul and SP Padmanath Barua. Search was launched to trace out Abhijit but without success. Social media on Tuesday brought into focus how a youth swam to Bangladesh under the very nose of BSF with sarcastic comments on the safety and security of our border along Karimganj town. If it happens near the crowded place, what about critical areas of the border.

It has been learnt from eye witnesses that quite recently a Bangladeshi youth swam across Kushiara to be in the Subhash nagar area of Karimganj. He was caught and handed over to police for action. Two Bangladeshis who infiltrated into Laturkandi area were detained by locals and handed them over to BSF which as reported accosted them and then let them go back to Bangladesh.
