BTC Chief Pramod Boro Hands Over Appointment Letters To Kins Of Encounter Victims

Guwahati: The family members of two persons who were died in an alleged encounter in Assam's Kokrajhar district, the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) chief Pramod Boro on Wednesday handed over appointment letters to them.

In the secretariat in Kokrajhar Boro handed over the appointment letter to the kin of Jonok Kumar Brahma and Janasar Mushahary.

Earlier, Jayant Narlikar, Commissioner of Lower Assam Division, has been entrusted to inquire into the circumstances leading to the death of two suspected United Liberation of Bodoland (ULB) militants in an encounter with the police that took place at Ultapani area under Kokrajhar police station on September 18. Narlikar will ascertain the facts and circumstances leading to the death of the militants and submit the inquiry report within 15 days.

Two persons suspected to be the cadres of the newly formed United Liberation of Bodoland (ULB) were killed in an encounter with police at Lungsung forest area in Kokrajhar district this morning. Briefing reporters at Kokrajhar SP office on Saturday, Additional Superintendent of Police Surjit Singh Panesar said the two cadres of the United Liberation of Bodoland were killed in an encounter inside Ultapani-Lungsung forest area this morning.

He said based on a complaint of extortion at Patgaon, Bishmuri area since the last few days, two persons identified as Janak Brahma and Jwngsar Mushahay were arrested on Friday from Patgaon area while they were on their way to collect the extortion money. One 9 mm pistol and Rs 18,000 were recovered from them. This morning, the two cadres were taken to the Ultapani-Lungsung forest to show the outfit's makeshift camp but on reaching Ride No 7 inside the forest, the police team was fired upon by the militants and in retaliation there was an exchange of fire. Taking advantage of the situation the two cadres tried to escape. After the gunfire, the two cadres were found injured and were taken to Kokrajhar Rupnath Brahma Civil hospital in Kokrajhar but were declared brought dead, he said adding that the two were former rebels of now defunct NDFB-S.
