BTC election: Returning officer holds meeting with zonal and sector officers

BONGAIGAON/KOKRAJHAR: As part of its preparation for the ensuing Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) Election, 2020, the Deputy Commissioner-cum-Returning Officer held a review meeting with all zonal and sector officers appointed for the 13-Chirang (ST), 14 Chirang Duars (ST) and 15- Kajalgaon (ST) Bodoland Territorial Council Constituencies in the presence of General Observer for all these constituencies, Nandita Dutta here in the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner's office on Monday.

Chairing the meeting, Deputy Commissioner-cum-Returning Officer Gautam Talukdar called upon all zonal officers and sector officers to pull up their shocks for the upcoming BTC election in the district as per Assam State Election Commission (ASEC) notification.

He emphasized that all zonal and sector officers should get themselves well acquainted with their duties and responsibilities and should read all guidelines and other related instructions of ASEC carefully for smooth conduct of BTC election in the district. He also urged upon all officers to implement the model code of conduct strictly and to ensure strict adherence to COVID-19 precautionary measures like maintaining social distancing, wearing face mask, using sanitizer by the polling personnel and voters during the poll day. He further asked zonal and sector officers to visit the polling stations under their jurisdiction to assess the ground realities and to report back to him immediately if there was any specific problem.

In the meeting, General Observer Nandita Dutta also addressed the officials regarding important election related matters and modalities for hassle-free conduct of elections. She wished all the very best to the officers engaged in election duty for the upcoming BTC election in the district.

The district administration has already appointed 6 zonal officers and 24 sector officers for 87 polling stations under 13- Chirang (ST) BTCC, 69 polling stations under 14- Chirang Duars (ST) BTCC and 72 polling stations under 15— Kajalgaon (ST) BTCC. There are 61,934 voters in 13 Chirang (ST) BTCC, 50,038 voters in 14- Chirang Duars (ST) BTCC and 56,252 voters in 15- Kajalgaon (ST) BTCC. The meeting was attended, among others by Additional Deputy Commissioners Karmadev Brahma, Ringkhang Mushahary, Nirmali Baruah and other dignitaries of the district administration.
