Guwahati: Sajal Kumar Sinha, the lone Indian National Congress (INC) winner in the recently-held Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections who later joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), two days after the results were declared, has been expelled from the primary membership of the grand old party. Sinha had won the Srirampur seat.

Earlier on Monday, Assam finance, education, health and PWD minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced Sinha's entry into the BJP at Hotel Lily in Guwahati on Monday. Addressing a press conference, Sarma said that more parties will join the BJP in the coming days. He also mentioned that he has been receiving calls from other Congress leaders, who want to join the BJP.

Speaking about his decision to join the BJP, Sinha said that he took the decision after discussing it with his supporters. He said that the results show that people wanted a change and have not voted for the Congress. Sinha, who has been working for the Srirampur constituency for a long period of time, says that being a lone winner of the party, he won't be able to do much for his constituency. He further said that those who are unhappy with his decision will be happy after he brings development in the next one year.

Sarma also stated that Sinha has joined the BJP without any condition. Sinha was like a brother to him since his Congress days.

BJP, UPPL and Gana Suraksha Party (GSP) are set to form the next council together in the Bodoland Territorial Areas District (BTAD). UPPL's Pramod Boro is the new Chief Executive Member (CEM) of BTC. The oath-taking ceremony of the new CEM will take place today in Kokrajhar.
