Burmese supari kingpin in Cachar police net

SILCHAR: On a seven-day transit remand, Cachar police brought Jasbir Singh, who is accused of running the Burmese supari syndicate, from Guwahati Central Jail to Silchar. A resident of Nagpur, Jasbir camped at Guwahati to run the Burmese supari syndicate. He was arrested by the crime branch of State police recently. Sources said, Jasbir was instrumental in supplying Burmese supari smuggled from Myanmar via Mizoram and Barak Valley to various 'gutka' manufacturing units in the country. Recently, Silchar police had arrested a kingpin of the syndicate Musa Ahmed who from his Aizwal camp masterminded the smuggling of Burmese supari and on the basis of information extracted from Musa, the district police took Jasbir in their remand. A case was earlier registered against Jasbir with Lailapur outpost under Dholai police.
