KOKRAJHAR: Like previous years, the Kokrajhar Rongjali Bwisagu Faligra Afat and 'Subungthini Thandwi' Bineswar Brahma Memorial Bwisagu Celebration Committee jointly organized Bwisagu traditional dance and competitions for "Bwisagikhungri", poem recitation and art competition for school children at Bhatarmari in Kokrajhar town on Sunday.
As a part of the programme, the president of Kokrajhar Bwisagu Faligra Afat Bhubaneswar Brahma hoisted the flag of the committee while the younger sister of Subungthini Thandwi Bineswar Brahma — Chayarani Basumatary paid homage to late Brahma at his portrait and offered floral tribute followed by a drawing competition held for school children.
An open traditional Bwisagu dance was also performed by cultural troupes coming from various parts of the area and local villagers. Ex-president of All Kokrajhar Anchalik Committee, ABSU and social worker Birinchi Kr. Brahma inaugurated the poem recitation while NSDian and Bollywood artiste Jayanta Narzary of the locality inaugurated the Bwisagukhungri competition.
Talking to the media, the secretary of the organizing committee of Rongjali Bwisagu, Bikash Basumatary (Laloo) said 21st Kokrajhar Rongjali Bwisagu Fwrbw and 18 Subungthini Thandwi Bineswar Brahma Bwisagu Fwrbw were jointly celebrated at Bhatarmari to preserve the traditional Bwisagu dance and songs. He said due to ongoing protocol for COVID-19, the celebration of Bwisagu could not be held with pomp and show but it being is held while maintaining the COVID protocols. He said that the winner of 'Bwisagikhungri' will be presented a gold chain and Rs 10,000 every year while other runners up are given Rs 5,000 and Rs. 2,500 respectively. He also said late Bineswar Brahma was born at Bhatarmari in Kokrajhar and therefore, they used to organize the Bwisagu for the past 18 years to honour his contributions to society.
