JAMUGURIHAT: A cabinet berth has been demanded for Sootea MLA Padma Hazarika who has been elected to the Assam Legislative Assembly for the fifth time. He was elected to the Assam Legislative Assembly in 1996, 2006, 2011, 2006 and 2021.

Many organizations and individuals of Sootea-Jamugurihat area have made an appeal that the Sootea MLA should be inducted into the cabinet. People of Assam have seen his work culture and capability as an MLA. As an MLA he had paved the way for self-dependence through tea plantation, cow keeping, pig farming and agri-farming. Kanyaka Bahumukhi Pam is one of the significant business ventures which is providing job opportunities to unemployed youths. Further, Padma Hazarika has carried out many eco-friendly activities in the constituency like community tree plantation drive and roadside plantation drive. He had played a vital role to free the encroached land of the southern part of Jamugurihat area, which was later handed over to the State Government. He has played a significant role towards preservation of extinct species of animals. The tortoise of the historic Nagsankar Temple is one such example.

Many developmental schemes had been carried out during his tenure, including permanent tourist hub at Barechahariya Bhaona, Nagsankar Sports Complex, modern guest house of Nagsankar Temple Nagsankar Auditorium, Udayan Rangamancha of Samar Dalani and mini stadiums. Hence, people have demanded a cabinet berth for MLA Padma Hazarika.
