SILCHAR: Cachar Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli on Sunday, appealed to the people of the district not to indulge in violence or spread or fall prey to any kind of rumours in connection with the recent violent incidents in Bangladesh. The Deputy Commissioner urged everyone to maintain peace and universal brotherhood across the district.
A meeting was held at the Cachar Deputy Commissioner's office in Silchar on Sunday night in which a number of decisions were taken to prevent unrest/communal violence in the district in the wake of the recent vandalization of Durga Puja pandals and attack on Hindus in the neighbouring country. Political leaders from different parties including Silchar MLA Dipayan Chakraborty, Lakhipur MLA Kaushik Rai, Borkhola MLA Misbahul Islam Laskar, Katigorah MLA Khalil Uddin Mazumder, Cachar BJP president Bimalendu Roy, AIUDF district president Shaminul Haque Barbhuiya, businessmen Mulchand Baid, Asit Dutta, Cachar Superintendent of police Ramandeep Kaur, District Development Commissioner, Rajib Roy and Additional Deputy Commissioner Dipak Jidung among others were present. All the speakers expressed deep concern over the situation in Bangladesh and stressed that the administration should take necessary steps to ensure peace and harmony is maintained in the district.
Speaking at the meeting, Cachar Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli said that it is necessary to condemn the incidents which have taken place in Bangladesh recently, but strict action will be taken if anyone is found using the issue to cause communal unrest and foment trouble in the district, stated a press release.
