SILCHAR: A programme on 'Sanskar' (Manuhe Manohor Babe) which aims at fighting superstitions and bring in logic based thinking was organized by District Administration Cachar at Cachar Zila Parishad hall on Friday.
MLA Borkhola Kishore Nath, MLA Udharbandh Mihir Kanti Shome graced the occasion in presence of Deputy Commissioner Cachar Keerthi Jalli.
At the outset all the dignitaries were felicitated with a 'uttorio' followed by lighting of lamp.
MLA Borkhola Kishore Nath and MLA Udharbandh Mihir kanti Shome spoke about superstitions which are prevalent in the societies and urged people not to be superstitious while performing their normal activities in their day to day life.
Speaking on the occasion Deputy Commissioner, Cachar Keerthi Jalli said, "This programme aimed at recent spate or antisocial activities because superstitious beliefs prevalent in various fragments of the State leading to assassination of innocent people and also causing turbulence in some areas of State."
Citing a famous quote from the song written and sung by Legendary Late Bhupen Hazarika she said that the programme was conducted for wide awareness towards reforming old age misbelief in the society by raising scientific temper among the people and thereby encouraging conjoint help and collaboration. It also aimed at raising public concerns about the menace of practicing some superstitious beliefs leading to social unrest.
Jalli also encouraged everybody to adopt scientific thinking and abhor quacks and save precious lives. "Corona was managed because of scientific approach and not quacks, knowledge is the only way to beat darkness," She added. A skit on not believing local quacks was also displayed by the members of group 'Natukera' on this occasion.
The meeting ended with all dignitaries taking a picture on a broken mirror which was earlier considered a superstition to break all such myths.
Later, a SVEEP programme was also organized at the Zila Parishad's conference hall which aimed at creating awareness among the mass targeting the youth, PWD voters and female voters throughout the Cachar district. District Development Commissioner Jessica Lalsim, Additional Deputy Commissioner Lolita Rongpipi, joint Director Health, Cachar, Dr Sudipjyoti Das, District Social welfare officer Saswati Shome, District Planning officer Ruli Doulagapu were also present on the meeting.
