SILCHAR: Ashok Singhal, Minister of Urban Development and Irrigation as well as Guardian of Cachar, while wounding up his two day visit to the district on Sunday, lauded the efforts of administration for vaccination. He laid stress on time bound implementation of government schemes, maintaining quality and delivery pattern. Addressing the media at the conference hall of the deputy commissioner, Singhal said steps would be taken to provide toilets and drinking water facilities in the government schools.
With Keerthi Jalli, Deputy Commissioner, MLAs, Deepayan Chakraborty, Kaushik Rai and Mihir Kanti Shome by his side, the Minister said a report submitted by the district elementary education officer reveals that 64 government schools do not have toilets for girl students while 104 toilets stand in need of immediate repair. 174 schools do not have toilets for boys and 214 schools' toilets need repair. As many as 336 schools need drinking water facilities while 413 schools are without electrification.
Ashok Singhal set a target of 120 days for completion and the Deputy Commissioner would keep an eye on their implementation. The Minister added his government would take special measures to give concrete shape to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision to connect each and every home with safe drinking water under 'Jal Jeevan Mission' in the district. Besides, steps are being taken to boost farming infrastructure of pineapple cultivation of Hmarkhawlien and the Deputy Commissioner will monitor it.
The Minister after discussion with the Principal of SMCH could understand that its medical infrastructure calls for facelift, particularly in respect of neurology and cardiology departments. These deficiencies of the premier Medical College have to be seriously addressed. He was all praise for the vaccination drive of the administration, bringing under its coverage a large segment of population till date. He saluted the frontline warriors for their indomitable spirit to fight Corona virus.
