SILCHAR: At last Cachar police on Saturday nabbed Altaf Hussain and Jakir Hussain Talukder, two big players in supari syndicate. Meanwhile police seized a Burmese betel nut laden truck coming from Mizoram on Friday and arrested its owner Prabir Paul, general secretary of BJP Kishan Morcha's Guwahati unit. He allegedly ferried the smuggled consignment on producing forged documents. State BJP president Bhabesh Kalita on Friday expelled him from the party.

The operation launched by Cachar police had seen the arrest of a number of kingpins of supari and fertiliser syndicates. Altaf and Jakir topped the wanted list of the police. They absconded after the opposition started. Police had earlier arrested Jahanara Parbin. Sources hinted that both Altaf and Jakir had actually surrendered to the police.
