Cachar voter awareness campaign sets record by creating longest street Rangoli

The record was attempted by the district administration on March 14 at Barkhola constituency area of Cachar District of Assam.

SILCHAR: In a bid to encourage voters to exercise their franchise in the upcoming assembly elections, the Cachar district administration has been making efforts to create awareness among the masses. However, one such effort has found a place in the 2022 edition of the India Book of Records.

The recognition was granted for creating the longest rangoli on voters awareness. The record was attempted by the district administration on March 14 at Barkhola constituency area of Cachar District of Assam. The process to make the 8 kilometre-long rangoli on the street was completed within 24 hours.

Earlier the district administration has invited India Book of Records for adjudicating the event. In a release issued by India Book of Records, the organisation stated that it has already issued the detailed guidelines and criteria for conducting the event as per the International Protocol of Records

Reportedly, officials from the India Book of Records, observed the entire process and they declared it the longest street Rangoli in the country.

Jitendra Kumar Jain, along with his team from India Book of Records who monitored the entire process termed the attempt as a first of its kind initiative taken in the country. The officials further informed that the eight kilometres long street rangoli may have created a world record in the street art category but they are yet to examine it and make an announcement if it qualifies for a world record.

The Cachar Administration has rolled out a number of novel initiatives for creating voters' awareness. Art World group of Silchar has assisted the District Administration in executing this feat.

The initiative was taken under Systematic Voters Education and Electronics Participation (SVEEP). People from all walks of life students, officials, police, army personnel along with deputy commissioner Keerthi Jalli participated in the rangoli making drive.

Prior to this in February, the district administration in an attempt to motivate young voters in the district to vote, a special project was initiated under the SVEEP. The district administration launched the theme 'Gaurab Cachar' and unveiled a mascot on the occasion. While sensitizing the youth about the rich history of Cachar, the administration made an effort to enrich the right to democracy among the young minds.
