BONGAIGAON: Demanding the preservation of the rare species Golden Langur, Green Manikpur, an NGO of Bongaigaon for preservation of nature, staged a protest in front of the Bongaigaon DC's office on Wednesday.

The activists demanded cancellation of the high-voltage electricity line project from Salekati to Meghalaya as it passes through Bhairabchura Hill of Bongaigaon which is the native land for the Golden Langur. The theme of the protest was 'Save Golden Langur, save Bhairabchura'.

Mahidhar Ray, president of the organization, said that the golden langur is not only the pride of Assam but also of the whole world. "We are responsible to save them and hence, we will let the rare species become extinct. If this high voltage electric wire passes through this forest land, golden langurs will start dying. So we demand to abort this project or pass the electric wire through another way," Ray said. They also submitted a memorandum to the DC in this regard.
