Kokrajhar: Election campaign has picked up steam in Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR). Addressing a BPF (Bodoland People's Front) rally in HalangBazar in Kokrajhar, BPF chief Hagrama Mohillary said that his party would win 28 seats in the upcoming Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections and for the fourth time in a row, head the Council.
The elections are scheduled to be held in December. Dates are yet to be announced.
BPF would be contesting in 37 seats.
Mohilary, who was the former chief BTC addressed a block level party workers workshop held in Halangbazar for Banargaon and Dotma constituencies of Kokrajhar district. He said that the BTC elections would be held in all likelihood in the first week of December.
Mohilary expressed confidence and said that his BPF party is getting massive support from people from across BTR and he is confident of a majority and fourth time in a row BPF would be heading the Council. He said that BPF party was working for all round development and welfare of the common man in the region.
He said that an all religion prayer programme would be organised in all primary level from 27th October after Durga Puja celebration to ensure free and fair BTC elections. He said that a women's mass gathering would also be held at block level across the four districts of the BTR – Baksa, Udalguri, Kokrajhar and Chirang.
An interactive session with village headmen and intellectuals of the society would also be organised ahead of the BTC elections.
