Guwahati: A writ petition has been filed at the Gauhati High Court by a group of candidates on 7 February. It comes in the backdrop of uncertainty that has re-emerged regarding the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) examinations.

11 candidates have filed a writ petition at the Gauhati High Court on 7 February, where they have alleged that the rules have been violated in declaring the dates of the upcoming examinations.

The matter has been listed by the High Court for urgent hearing on 9 February.

The APSC exams will take place from February 21 onwards. It is to be noted that the exams will be held consecutively on February 21, 22, and 23.

This decision did not go down well with the candidates as a result of which they have expressed their dissatisfaction and have also complained.

The date of the APSC exams have clashed with that of the UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) and it has led to questions being raised by the candidates. It is clearly evident that the candidates are not happy with the decisions being made.

The petition was filed by Advocate Feroz Khan in the High Court on behalf of the students. The decision of the High Court remains to be seen.

Earlier, the Gauhati High Court had given permission to the APSC to go ahead with conducting the Combined Competitive Mains Examination, but without the Language paper.

The court, however, stated in an interim order that the final selection will be subject to the final outcome of the writ petition which has challenged the decision to drop the Language paper from the Mains examination.

The High Court had earlier directed the APSC not to hold the examination without the court's permission.
