SIVASAGAR: Demanding compensation and alternative establishment, cattle breeders of Sivasagar district affected by Assam Cattle Preservation Act, 2021 submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister through Sivasagar Deputy Commissioner on Wednesday.

The memorandum stated that most of the families living along the riverside in Sivasagar district are engaged in cattle rearing. Cattle farming is one of the main sources of livelihood for these farmers. With the trade of cattle rearing, they are contributing to the State' agricultural economy. Their families have been rearing thousands of cattle as capital. The implementation of the Assam Cattle Preservation Act, 2021 will impact adversely as there will be a huge loss due to non-sale of stored cattle in the market and livelihoods of these farmers will be destroyed.

Besides, raising the demand for adequate compensation and alternative livelihoods in view of the losses faced by the cattle farmers, they would launch vigorous democratic movements in future if their demands were not fulfilled, stated the memorandum.
