Celebrating 4th Mech Kachari cultural festival in Guwahati

The celebration began with their traditional ‘Mrituk puja’ then ‘Baat bheta puja’, ‘Aai puja’ and finally ‘Bathou puja’

Guwahati: A colourful and vibrant celebration of 4th Mech Kachari cultural festival is going on at Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakeshtra, Guwahati.

The one-day event is organized by the Mech Kachari Development Council (MKDC) in collaboration with Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakeshtra.

They began the celebration with their traditional 'Mrituk puja' then 'Baat bheta puja', 'Aai puja' and finally 'Bathou puja'.

Krishnakanta , the chairman of Mech kochari Development Council (MKDC) said," cultural functions are going on and their traditional Harur Hanguli nirtya, Magan nritya, Birgushi nritya,Neul nritya and Chilahali nritya will be held during the program.

He said they have been celebrating the festival for a long time. The first time the festival was celebrated in Sivasagar, second one was in Numuligarh, and the third festival was celebrated in Bokajan.

They are celebrating the 4th Mech Kachari festival at Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakeshtra in Guwahati. They organized the festival with limited numbers of gathering in view of the Covid 19 epidemic.

Although the program was scheduled for 3 days from 26 to 27 November but the organizers cut the 3-day long program down to one day as a mark of respect to late Tarun Gogoi, the former Assam Chief Minister who passed away on November 23.
