DHUBRI: The initial work for the census of India got underway throughout the country. Here in Dhubri, Director of Census Operation, Assam, Narayan Konwar reviewed all the census works already done at the conference hall of the Dhubri Deputy Commissioner’s office on Wednesday. The training of master trainers of different districts has already been conducted in all the districts of Assam. In Dhubri district, 2 Master Trainers will train 53 Field Trainers and 53 field trainers will train 510 supervisors and 3,052 enumerators. Finally, the enumerators will collect the data from an estimated population of 19,41,997 in the district, official sources said.
Sources also informed that Dhubri Deputy Commissioner Anant Lal Gyani had started appointing the 14 charge officers under the Principal Census Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner.
The census is being conducted under the Census Act 1948 and Census Rules 1990 in two phases -House listing and Housing Census and Population enumeration. In Assam, Housing listing and Housing Census will be conducted from April 20 to May 20 while population enumeration from February 9 to February 28 next year followed by a revisional round from March 1 to March 5, sources added.
Sources also informed that it would be the first census to be conducted digitally with mobile App. In the census, enumerators will collect data with their own mobile phones and data will be on housing conditions, household amenities, and assets. The decennial population census is being conducted in India since 1872 without any break. The 2021 census will be 16th census of country and 8th after Independence. The census is the biggest source of primary data on village, town and ward level.
India census has a history of 150 years providing micro-level data on various parameters, including housing conditions, amenities and assets, demography, religion, SC, and ST, language, literacy, education, economic activities, migration, and fertility. Data collected are of utmost importance as it provides the basis for planning and development of the nation. While reviewing the preparedness of census works of Dhubri district, Konwar sought the cooperation of the people in providing correct facts and figures in order to make an accurate census 2021.
