Certificates to successful women SHG trainees distributed in Nagaon

With a view to provide entrepreneurial training and facilitate setting up of micro enterprises by members of Women SHGs

NAGAON: With a view to provide entrepreneurial training and facilitate setting up of micro enterprises by members of Women SHGs, National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), Assam Regional Office, Guwahati had sponsored the conduct of various Micro Enterprise Development Programmes (MEDPs) and Livelihood & Enterprise Development Programmes (LEDPs) in Nagaon district on terracotta & pottery craft, sanitary pad & bag making, detergent & phenyl making, mushroom cultivation & processing, artificial jewellery craft, beautician technique etc.

To felicitate the successful trainees coinciding with International Womens’ Day, a valedictory-cum-certificate distribution programme was organized by NABARD and the implementing agency Gramya Unnayan Santha on Thursday at Bapuji Bhaban Auditorium in Puronigudam. Naveen Dhingra, chief general manager of NABARD and Dimple Baruah, ADC, Nagaon, regional managers from State Bank of India & Assam Gramin Vikash Bank; LDM-Nagaon; SBI, chief manager, BM of Assam Cooperative Apex Bank Ltd, DPM-ASRLM; Director-RUDSETI attended the programme as guests as well as special invitees.

Addressing the gathering of over hundred women SHG trainees, Naveen Dhingra, CGM-NABARD said development of rural areas cannot be achieved without the empowerment & development of women in rural areas. Hence, NABARD supports and organises as many as programmes under farming and non-farming sectors for overall development of women in rural areas. The capacity building and skill development programmes like MEDPs are being organized by NABARD to bridge the skill deficits and to facilitate optimization of production activities of SHG members, he said.

He stated that making available adequate and timely capital support is an important tool for these trained SHG members to continue the activity and also to set up their own micro units. However, most of these trainees could not continue the activities because of various reasons including lack of credit facilities.
