GUWAHATI: Industries and Commerce Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary visited the Brahmaputra Valley Fertilizer Corporation Limited (BVFCL), Namrup on Monday and took a tour of the plant area.

The Minister held a meeting with CMD, BVFCL and team of officials on the functioning of the running units. Minister Patowary assured full support of the Government of Assam for the proposed brownfield Unit IV ammonia-urea production unit. He added that Assam Government has already taken up the matter with Government of India for bringing Unit IV into reality at the earliest.

Minister Patowary spoke on the issue of sanction of Rs 100 crores for immediate maintenance requirements of Unit II and Unit III and that the matter is being pursued at Government of India level. After being cleared by Union Finance Ministry, the sanction is awaiting Union Cabinet approval which may take place anytime soon. Patowary mentioned his recent meeting with DV SadanandaGowda, Union Chemicals and Fertilizers Minister,on the matter of setting up of a new ammonia-urea plant at the premises of BVFCL.

With the present annual capacity of 3.9 lakh MT of urea, BVFCL, Namrup is the only urea fertilizer manufacturing company in the eastern zone of the country comprising the states of North East, West Bengal, Odisha and Bihar.
