Chandra Nath Sarma remembered by Sonitpur Zila Sahitya Sabha

JAMUGURIHAT: Chandra Nath Sarma Smriti Divas, organised by the Sonitpur Zila Sahitya Sabha in association with the Jamuguri branch of the literary body, was held at Abhijatri Kala Kendra, Jamugurihat on Thursday with Dr Bhupen Saikia, president of the district committee in the chair. The day-long programme began with illumination of earthen lamp in front of the portrait by Hemanta Bora. One minute silence was observed in memory of Pradip Nath, former president of the district committee who breathed his last recently.

Speakers including Dilip Phukan, Ranjit Borthakur, Dr Haren Saikia, Ganesh Pathak, Sadanan Devnath, Jyoti Bhattacharya among others recalled the contribution of late freedom fighter, eminent lawyer and a Gandhian leader Chandra Nath Sarma. Basav Bhuyan, secretary of Jamuguri branch of Sahitya Sabha conducted the proceedings. More than twenty students who have passed the HSLC and HS examinations with eighty five and above percentages were felicitated with a citation, gamosa and a packet of books to each by the district committee. The meeting was attended by executive members.
