SARUPATHAR: Chaos permeated among the residents and owners of business establishments in Sarupathar under Golaghat district, after the NF Railway issued an eviction notice (Vide No. GA-10 (Eviction) /DMV- 425) to the Superintendent of Sarupathar railway station on January 20.

Upon receiving the eviction notice most of the shop owners and small-scale business establishments, began emptying their shops and shifting their locations.

As per sources, the notice mentioned that the railways will carry out an eviction drive in Sarupathar on February 2 after many business establishments illegally encroached upon the land belonging to the Indian railways.

Surprised upon receiving the notice, a shop owner said, "Although, a similar notice was issued four-five years ago, now many shops have come up in this area. Where will they go now? In the last four-five years, no action was taken on the part of railways. But this sudden eviction notice from the authorities is raising trouble for us."

It is also mentioned that today on January 29, the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Lumding have visited the Sarupathar railway station before the eviction for routine inspection on security, safety, train operations, and public inconvenience. He also said this eviction process was passed by the Parliament and this decision was taken by the Government of India. Later, he urged all the unauthorized occupants to clear the railway land and to obey the court order, he added.

Meanwhile, the railways have given a deadline to the land encroachers to empty the railways' land, following which the railways will carry out the eviction drive. It may be mentioned here that earlier too the Northern Frontier Railways (NFR) have carried out an eviction drive against illegal encroachment. Multiple houses and business establishments have been demolished that were set up on railways' land or along the railway tracks.
