SIVASAGAR: Cheques of grants provided by the Government of Assam were distributed to seven Rongali Bihu celebration committees under the Sivasagar district.
On the occasion, a meeting was held at the Syukafa Conference Hall of the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Sivasagar under the chairmanship of Sivasagar Deputy Commissioner Megha Nidhi Dahal, which was attended by Dr Sabyasachi Mahanta, Principal of Gargaon College and President of Sibsagar Press Club, Manali Prasad Rajak, Assistant Commissioner, Sivasagar and representatives of various Bihu committees.
Speaking at the meeting, Dr Sabyasachi Mahanta emphasized the importance of Bihu committees in preserving the identity of Bihu. After this, the Deputy Commissioner ceremoniously distributed the cheques to the representatives of seven Rongali Bihu celebration committees - Rangghar Bakori Bihu by ATASU, Mukoli Bihu by AASU, Dikhowporia Sanmilita Yuva Sangha Bihu, Mukoli Bihu by Pachim Konwarpur Regional AASU, Kareng Ghar Bakori Bihu by Assam AJYCP, Gargaon, Dikhow Bihu at Nazira Natya Mandir and Rongali Bihu by TAYP, Namti.
It is to be noted that the Bihu committees which have been celebrating Bihu for at least the last 10 years within the first seven days of Bohag, have been given a grant of Rs 1,50,000 by the Government of Assam to celebrate the Bohag Bihu or Rongali Bihu.
