Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma visits Chaolung Sukapha Samannay Kshetra

Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday paid a visit to the Chaolung Sukapha Samannay Kshetra in Jorhat district. During the visit, he inaugurated an auditorium and also inspected the already-existing museum within the Samannay Kshetra premises.

JORHAT: Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday paid a visit to the Chaolung Sukapha Samannay Kshetra in Jorhat district. During the visit, he inaugurated an auditorium and also inspected the already-existing museum within the Samannay Kshetra premises.

Addressing those who gathered at the Samannay Kshetra during his visit, Chief Minister Dr. Sarma said Chaolung Sukapha had built the foundation of the Assamese identity. He worked towards uniting numerous ethnicities by bringing them into the fold of a common syncretic identity, the Chief Minister said. The Chief Minister lauded the Ahoms for preventing the eastward onslaught of Islamic invaders. As mark of tribute towards the saga of valour and patriotism displayed by the Ahoms, the Government of Assam has taken a number of initiatives such as the sincere efforts to include Charaideo moidams into the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites and celebration of the 400th birth anniversary of the great Ahom Army Commander Lachit Borphukon, the Chief Minister added.

The Chief Minister also announced a grant of Rs 100 crore for development of the Samannay Kshetra which will be utilized within a period of three years. He further added that a second campus of the Assam State Museum would be set up within the Samannay Kshetra premises.

The Chief Minister was accompanied by Assam Cultural Affairs Minister Bimal Bora, Members of Parliament Tapan Gogoi, Pabitra Margherita, Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, Members of Legislative Assembly Hitendra Nath Goswami, Taranga Gogoi, Bhaben Bharali, Rupjyoti Kurmi, along with a host of other prominent personalities, stated a press release.
