DIBRUGARH: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday interacted with the students of Dibrugarh University at Rang Ghar Auditorium. Speaking to media persons, Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “I met the students of Dibrugarh University, interacted with them and tried to understand how we can work for the development and progress of the State. I also tried to understand their issues and problems. 50% fees of 11 courses under Dibrugarh University will be borne by Assam Government.”

“Rs 100 crores will be provided by the State government to Dibrugarh University in three installments within 2026 so that the university can get a new shape. I request all the faculties, students, staff and employees of the university to prepare a master plan before spending the amount so that we can solve at least few problems,” stated Sarma.

He further added, “We will take some decisions in the Cabinet meeting to help financially at least the 3-year-old Durga Puja committees so that they do not have to collect donations from the businessmen.”

“According to our Sanatani culture, donations should be collected only from devotees, that is too not forcefully. We will also help the organizers who will observe the Raax Utsav this year and Karam Utsav next year. This is high time that we should stop collecting forceful donations,” Sarma said.
