GUWAHATI: In a recent operation conducted in Guwahati's Maligaon and Pandu areas, at least 11 child laborers were rescued from various business establishments, shedding light on the persistent issue of child exploitation in the region.

The District Task Force, in collaboration with the Jalukbari Police, orchestrated the rescue mission, bringing hope and relief to these young individuals who had been toiling away for meager wages. This operation serves as a testament to the commitment of local authorities in tackling child labor and safeguarding the rights of vulnerable children.

This isn't the only incident; just a few months ago, another child laborer was saved from a residential house in the Ghoramara area of Guwahati during a similar operation. Acting upon a complaint lodged by the victim's mother, the ChildLine and Basistha police worked diligently to rescue a minor from a perilous situation.

Investigations revealed that a woman named Purabi had purchased the minor from Udalguri, luring her with promises of employment at an NGO. The child in question hailed from Bahipukhuri Tea Estate. Shockingly, it was alleged that the accused had a history of engaging in such illicit activities, deceiving children under the pretext of providing them with job opportunities.

The recent operation underscores the urgency of addressing the pervasive issue of child labor in Guwahati and the surrounding regions. Child labor not only deprives these young souls of their childhood but also exposes them to physical and emotional harm, all in the pursuit of economic gain by unscrupulous individuals.

The rescue efforts carried out by the District Task Force, Jalukbari Police, Child Line, and Basistha police reflect a collective commitment to eradicating child labor and ensuring that children have the opportunity to grow and develop in a safe and nurturing environment. By holding those responsible for such exploitative practices accountable, authorities aim to send a strong message that child labor will not be tolerated.

Efforts to combat child labor must continue, with a focus on raising awareness, strengthening child protection mechanisms, and providing educational and social support to rescued children. It is essential to create a society where every child's rights are upheld, and they are given the chance to build a brighter future, free from exploitation and hardship.
