BONGAIGAON: In view of celebrating a safe, convenient, and trouble-free Durga Puja in Chirang district, the Chirang district administration held a meeting with the representatives of various puja committees under Kajalgaon Sadar subdivision, in the conference hall of district center, Kajalgaon on Thursday.

Presiding over the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Chirang, Narendra Kumar Shah welcomed all the members and informed that the ensuing Durga Puja would be celebrated in Chirang district with strict restrictions due to prevailing COVID-19 situation and general security issues. He said that at least first dose of vaccine against COVID-19 for organizers and volunteers of all puja committees, including devotees, would be very necessary this time.

"All the committee members should submit their vaccination certificates while applying for permission for holding pujas. As such, they should keep copies of such certificates at the puja premises too," he said. He asked the puja committees for engaging not less than 20 volunteers each, installing CCTVs, keeping ready fire extinguishers, ensuring night duty, arranging adequate light in the puja premises, and completing all immersion-related activities before sunset.

He also informed that there would not be any mela in connection with Durga Puja, no procession during immersion and no gambling activities this year. Expressing concern over low vaccination rate at Sidli, Runikhata and Shantipur areas, DC Shah urged the puja committee members of those areas to motivate the public for vaccination as no one would be allowed to enter the puja mandals without taking COVID vaccine. During the meeting, Chirang Superintendent of Police Pranjit Borah also spoke about security measures to be arranged by them during puja time for the safety of devotees.

Additional Deputy Commissioners Ajit Kumar Sarmah, Khanindra Das and Subdivisional Officer (Sadar) Wahidul Islam were also present in the meeting.
