Chirang District Election Officer holds meeting with candidates and counting agents

KOKRAJHAR/BONGAIGAON: Chirang election district is all set to conduct counting of votes in respect of 31-Sidli (ST) Legislative Assembly Constituency (LAC) on Sunday.

On the last day of preparation for counting of votes, the District Election Officer, Chirang and Returning Officer for 31-Sidli (ST) LAC, Gautam Talukdar on Saturday held a meeting with the contesting candidates and their counting agents in the presence of General Observer Ajay Yadav in the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner's office at Kajalgaon. In his speech in the meeting, the DEO and RO Gautam Talukdar highlighted the procedures of counting of votes and COVID-19 protocol to be followed as per the guidelines of Election Commission of India (ECI).

Stressing importance of corona testing, the DEO and RO Talukdar said that in view of the steep surge in COVID-19 cases in the State, the Election Commission of India (ECI) and government have made the final vaccination certificate or negative RT-PCR report, obtained within 72 hours of the start of counting, mandatory for officials on election duty, candidates, counting agents and media representatives attending the vote counting on May 2. He further informed the house that the counting of votes for 31-Sidli assembly segment would be held in three rooms- two for EVM counting with seven tables each and one for postal ballot counting with four tables at 8 AM in the district parade ground at Kajalgaon.

Additional Deputy Commissioners Anupam Deka, Ringkhang Mashahary, Nirmali Baruah and other officials of the district administration were present in the meeting.
