GUWAHATI: On Friday morning, Assam Police conducted an operation and recovered a huge cache of illegal arms and ammunition.
The operation was carried out in the Amlaiguri village inside Manas National Park led by Chirang Police. During the search operation, the police team successfully recovered two AK series rifles, one M20 Pistol, two AK magazines, and 7.62 mm live ammunition.
The operation began around 4:30 AM in the morning in the north-western side of Amlaiguri village, which falls under Panbari Police Station. The operation conducted by Chirang Police was led by Additional SP(HQ), with assistance from SDPO Bijni, CI Panbari, OC Panbari PS and CRPF personnel of 156 Battalion C Coy.
ADGP (Law & Order) G P Singh wrote on Twitter, "Continued offensive against unlawful weapons – On 12.02.2021 morning @chirangpolice recovered two AK Rifles, One M20 Pistol with ammunition from inside Manas National Park located in Amlaiguri village under Panbari PS. @assampolice @DGPAssamPolice @CMOfficeAssam @HMOIndia"
"In continuation of operation against illegal weapons (abuse and stockpiling), a rigorous search operation has been conducted by Chirang Police led by Addl. SP (Hq), Chirang assisted by SDPO Bijni, CI Panbari, OC Panbari PS and CRPF personnel of 156 BN C Coy today, on 12.02.2021 from 4.30 A.M. onwards inside Manas National Park located in the North-Western side of Amlaiguri village under Panbari PS (sic)", an official release stated.
Chirang Police too took to Twitter to announce the successful operation. This operation comes in the long line of arms and ammunition cleanup that is being done by Assam Police.
Last week, Chirang Police recovered six pieces of ivory from Padmapur area under Dhaligaon PS of Chirang district. The Wildlife Crime Control Board, Forest Department of Chirang and Chirang Police jointly launched a trap to nab the culprit who was selling the ivory pieces.
Assam Police also recovered a huge quantity of arms and ammunition from Sarainil OP of Gosaigaon PS. The operation, led by Kokrajhar Police, recovered five AK 56 rifles with 8 magazines, one HK 33E Rifle, one UBGL with 11 shells, eight Chinese hand grenades and 300 AK 56 ammunition.
