GOLAGHAT: The members of All Assam Chutia Students' Union (AACSU) staged protest in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office on Friday demanding autonomous council and ST status to the Chutia community.

Activists shouted various slogans against the Narendra Modi-led BJP government as well as the Sarbananda Sonowal-led Assam Government. In this context, the general secretary of All Assam Chutia Students' Union, Mohen Bora said that the Sarbananda Sonowal government had cheated them by giving false promise. The government provided autonomous council to Moran, Motak and Koch Rajbongshi community but deprived the Chutia community.

The Sarbananda Sonowal government wants to bring division among the ethnic communities, he said. The All Assam Chutia Students' Union warned that if the Assam Government did not provide ST status to the Chutia community before the 2021 election, the government would face massive protests in the coming days.
